Abstract

This research discusses the implementation of LoRa technology and the Caesar Cipher encryption method in a monitoring and detonation control system for military training purposes. Conventional radio communication systems commonly used today have limitations in range, are vulnerable to frequency interference, and carry the risk of wiretapping, thus requiring a reliable and secure alternative technology. This study aims to design a wireless communication system prototype that integrates LoRa with Caesar Cipher encryption, and to test its performance in terms of range, latency, transmission success, and data protection resilience. An experimental method was employed utilizing hardware such as the Arduino Nano microcontroller, ESP32 as a gateway, LoRa SX1278 module, u-blox M-8N GPS sensor, and a web-based dashboard. Before transmission, all data, including location coordinate telemetry and detonator actuator control commands, are encrypted over the LoRa network. Test results indicate that the system can operate at a communication range of up to 500 meters. This system recorded an average data transmission delay of 0.56 seconds, an average packet loss of 2.1%, and a transmission success rate reaching 97.9%. The encryption and decryption process using the Caesar Cipher algorithm (with key = 5) was successfully executed with precision, achieving a 98% success rate, ensuring that information is protected from unauthorized parties and that the received data exactly matches the sent data. In conclusion, this system prototype has been successfully implemented and is suitable for supporting secure long-distance data communication, location monitoring, and wireless detonation control in military training.
